Q: Could you tell us a bit about the history of the Northbridge Baths?

A: Owned and managed by Willoughby City Council, the beautiful and historic Northbridge Baths were officially opened in 1924. The original baths, which were called Sailors Bay Baths, were much smaller than the current complex. Over the years the baths have undergone many changes and additions. Between 1935 and 1937, the area of the baths was extended to provide a 55-yard racing course. Thirty years later, the 55-yard racing area was updated to a 50-metre competitive section with fibreglass starting blocks for races.

Look out for the plaque commemorating local postman Ernie White who came to Northbridge Baths every morning before delivering the mail. He would feed the fish in the pool and was known as the unofficial caretaker of the Baths.

What kinds of recreational activities and amenities can be enjoyed here?

A: The Northbridge Baths are tidal baths set within the stunning Sydney Harbour foreshore. They boast a sandy beach and are set within the native bushland of Middle Harbour. The baths are equipped with a BBQ, picnic area, change rooms, toilets, hot showers and parking. Families can enjoy playing in the shallow water and relaxing in the picnic area. Serious swimmers can swim laps in the marked lanes or join Northbridge Swimming Club for squads and races.

Q: The Northbridge Baths is often called the ‘hidden jewel of the Northshore’. What makes this destination and its surrounding location so special?

A: Northbridge Baths are accessed by a windy road descending down through the trees followed by a steep walk down from the car park. The adventure will be worth the effort when you arrive at the idyllic baths with a sandy beach and glistening harbour views. While away a warm summer’s day by cooling off in the clear water and watching the fish drift by… or go for a bracing swim in the winter sun. Whatever the time of year, Northbridge Baths are a magical place to discover.

Q: How long have you been a Cammeray local and what do you love about the area?

A: My husband and I have lived in the suburb for almost eight years now. We moved here from Surry Hills shortly after we had our first child as we were looking for an area with a bit more space, plenty of greenery and good schools that was still close to the city. Cammeray ticked all those boxes and more. I love the community vibe of the area. Everyone from our neighbours to local shop owners are always so friendly, which has been really lovely for our family.

Q: How is Primrose Park & Walking Track part of your lifestyle?

A: Having two kids and a dog with lots of energy, Primrose Park is a great space for them to get active amongst nature. There’s a range of sporting facilities here like a cricket pitch and tennis courts, which we use quite often. I take my morning walks on the walking track from here, which provides a peaceful escape with water views.

Q: What does a typical weekend in Cammeray look like for you?

A: My 8 year old son plays for the NS Brothers so Saturday mornings are spent at the club during footy season. Afterwards, we often go to Maggio’s Bakery to pick up lunch and a coffee. Some weekends we meet friends for dinner at one of the local restaurants – our favourite is Toriciya Japanese! We also frequent the Northbridge Baths during summer, which the kids absolutely love.
